SALISBURY, MD---9i传媒有限公司 celebrates traditions of the past and creates new ones during its 100th Spring Commencement, Wednesday-Thursday, May 21-22.
For the first time since the 1970s, Commencement returns to the SU campus. SU alumnus Aaron Deal ’93, M’03 serves as the University’s first-ever non-student Graduate Commencement speaker as 207 students receive their master’s and doctoral degrees Wednesday evening at Maggs Physical Activities Center.
Deal, supervisor of educational technology and the New Teacher Induction Program at Wicomico County Public Schools, was named Maryland Teacher of the Year in 2003. He is joined by graduate student speaker Peter Jabal of Salisbury, who earns his M.A. in conflict analysis and dispute resolution.
Also for the first time at this year’s graduate ceremony, each graduate will be hooded on stage by their faculty mentors or deans, formally recognizing their transition from student to scholar.
The next morning, Washington Commanders head coach and SU alumnus Dan Quinn ’94 serves as SU’s first non-student Undergraduate Commencement speaker since 2001. For the first time, the ceremony takes place at Sea Gull Stadium. Quinn is joined by undergraduate student speaker Stephora Alberi of Salisbury, who receives her B.S. in computer science.
During the ceremony, Quinn and his wife, Stacey Quinn ’91, will receive honorary Doctor of Public Service degrees from SU, recognizing their philanthropic leadership and enduring support for SU Athletics and the broader University community.
Dan was a two-sport student-athlete at SU, in football and track and field. Stacey was an athletic trainer. The two have remained SU supporters over the years, creating three endowments benefiting Sea Gull Athletics.
University System of Maryland (USM) Regent Tom McMillen offers greetings on behalf of the USM Board of Regents at both ceremonies.
Among undergraduates, 999 students receive the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts. Some 205 receive master’s degrees. Two receive doctoral degrees.
